One of 2024’s Best Action Sequels Lands on Netflix This Week (2024)

One of the best and most successful action sequels of the year, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, is all set to land on Netflix this week. Starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as best friends and Miami PD Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, respectively, the fourth outing in the Bad Boys franchise proved unequivocally that neither Smith nor Lawrence, who are both nearing their 60s, are too old for this stuff, as Bad Boys: Ride or Die sees the pair leaping head first back into action.

Now, audiences can join them from the comfort of their own homes when Bad Boys: Ride or Die lands on Netflix on Tuesday, October 8 (via Forbes). Directed by Adil & Bilall and written by Chris Bremner, Bad Boys: Ride or Die sees Will Smith return as Detective Lieutenant Michael Eugene "Mike" Lowrey alongside Martin Lawrence as Detective Lieutenant Marcus Miles Burnett. The rest of the cast includes Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Núñez, Tasha Smith, John Salley, Eric Dane, DJ Khaled, Ioan Gruffudd, with Jacob Scipio as Armando Aretas, Mike and Isabel's son, and Joe Pantoliano as Captain Conrad Howard. While the latest foray into the Bad Boys franchise was met with somewhat lukewarm reviews from critics (the movie now stands at 65% on Rotten Tomatoes), audiences could not get enough, with the action sequel grossing $404 million worldwide against a production budget of $100 million and thus becoming so the tenth-highest-grossing movie of 2024.

Bad Boys 5 Is Already Being Discussed

Following such success, it should come as little surprise to learn that a further sequel, Bad Boys 5, is now being discussed. Producing legend Jerry Bruckheimer, the man behind such major franchises as Top Gun, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, and the National Treasure movies, has confirmed that discussions regarding a fifth Bad Boys movie are already happening, telling Deadline:

“We’ve had discussions but we want to see how this one did at the box office, and I’m sure we’ll have conversations this week.”

Hollywood icon and Oscar winner Wil Smith, who suffered a career setback following 2022’s “slap heard around the world,” has stated that he would love to return for more “as long as there's a reason.” He said to EW:

“It is a world and characters that are just an absolute joy to be with. In a movie theater with Mike and Marcus, it just feels like home. So, as long as there's a reason — I never wanted to be one of those dudes who make sequels just because people will go. I want to make them because there is something to say, and the characters have a place that they're developing to... that will be interesting and fun to watch and maybe even a little helpful."
