Nearly 300 NFDA members nationwide assembled on Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress.
Funeral directors are concerned about high operating expenses resulting from federal government regulation and the impact this has on the families they serve. NFDA is the largest funeral service organization, serving funeral directors since 1882. Summer program targets youths Private Industry Council No. 17 plans to provide services to area youths during the 1997 Summer Youth Employment Program, administered by Lancaster-Fairfield Community Action. Eligible participants must be at least 14 years of age at date of application and no older than 21 years of age.
Ages 14 and 15 may work 20 hours per week, and those 16 and older may work 32 hours. The 10-week summer program will allow youths the opportunity to earn $4.75 per hour. Work experience will begin June 16 and be provided in public sector agencies throughout Lancaster and Fairfield County. New license plate unveiled OHIO BIRTHPLACE OF AVIATION :000000 WILDLIFE An Ohio Wildlife License Plate design now is available as introduced by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the Division of Wildlife of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The state's newest license plate features a cardinal, Ohio's official bird. It is available at all 214 deputy registrar offices in Ohio. The plate is red, gold and blue and costs $25 per set of two, plus the additional registration fee. Fifteen dollars of the cost goes to the division's Wildlife Diversity Fund.
Leroy Bloomberg, M.D., medical director of the Bloomberg Eye Center in Newark, taught three courses at the American College of Eye Surgeons Quality Surgery XI meeting held in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Bloomberg chaired a symposium on glaucoma and delivered two presentations on innovative surgical techniques that he has developed for patients who have glaucoma. One technique is for patients who have glaucoma and also require cataract surgery. The other technique is for patients who are unable to be controlled on medical therapies or through laser intervention. Bloomberg also was invited to present a paper on topical anesthesia utilizing the patented Bloomberg Ophthalmic Ring.
This technique now is being used by surgeons around the world for giving safer, more comfortable anesthesia for many different types of eye surgery, a release from Bloomberg said. Bloomberg has offices in Newark and Columbus. He is board-certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is certified in the subspecialty field of cataract and lens implant surgery by the American Board of Eye Surgery. He is serving a second term on the board of directors for the American Board of Eye Surgery, a national organization that is the only certifying board of surgical skills. Bloomberg is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons.
