How much HP can a stock Focus ST handle? ›

For the record, 400whp is our comfortable limit on a stock engine. Anything more and we recommend reinforcing your engine with better internals.

The reason for the breakup? One rumor doing the rounds in motoring circles is that Ford had already spent tens of millions of dollars on Block's colorful antics, but when Block asked them to double that fee, the Blue Oval simply decided to pull the plug. Block signed to drive Ford vehicles in 2010.

Running a naturally aspirated Roush Yates 410 ci Ford V8 engine initially, the Hoonicorn V1 only produced only 845 horsepower. Wanting to tackle Pikes Peak, Block knew he would have to compensate for the high altitude's thin atmosphere and decided to bump up the power level.

The Wasatch County sheriff's department reported that Block had been riding in the Mill Hollow area when his snowmobile upended on a steep slope and landed on top of him. Block was declared dead at the scene of the accident due to his injuries suffered.

History. The team was formed by Ken Block as Monster World Rally Team at the beginning of 2010 as a platform for him to compete at world championship level.

The Focus RS and Focus ST are both high-performance hatchbacks, with the former being the faster and more powerful. But the ST would be more than enough for most people – plus you can have it as an estate. You can find plenty of used Ford models for a great price, for either the RS, ST or other variations.

Does Focus ST have turbo lag? ›

There is minor turbo lag at the very bottom of the rev-range, which other hot hatchbacks don't typically have. However, keep the accelerator planted and a massive surge of power pushes you into the back of the seat.

Focus ST has more power but it weighs more, so it's a wash IMO. On paper it's slightly faster though. I drove them back to back before I bought, and they seemed about the same as far as accelerating from a roll was concerned. The 2.0L sucks down fuel whereas our 1.6L seems to sip it.

Sadly, Ken Block and Ford parted ways in 2021. Because of this, Block had to also part ways with his Hoonicorn and many other cars. After his final ride in the Hoonicorn V2, it was returned to Ford. In fact, the Hoonicorn, along with all of Block's other Fords, are listed in the “Archived Garage” on HooniganRacing.com.

Since Ken Block and Ford ended their partnership in 2020, the 53-year-old rally driver turned Gymkhana master has been slowly selling off his collection of unique Ford-branded vehicles.

It just so happens that most stock Focus RS's will make somewhere around 300-310 hp at the wheels when tested on a chassis dyno. If you start playing with these online calculators, you can get an idea of what 400 or 500 hp might do in a Focus RS.

The 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine uses a quick spooling and durable BorgWarner K03 turbocharger to achieve full boost by 2000rpm. On 87 octane this equates to 270 pound-feet of torque at 3,000 rpm and 237 horsepower at 5,500 rpm.

Top speed is quoted as 155mph. The diesel model, making considerably less power than the petrol, isn't quite as brisk. It's not bad though, with a 7.6sec 0-62mph time and 137mph top speed, though emphasis here is probably more on its 58.7mpg combined economy (35.8mpg for the petrol) rather than outright performance.
