Is Dark Souls 2 hardest game? ›

I've played Dark Souls 1 and 3, as well as Bloodborne and recently decided to get Dark Souls 2. As the title suggests, this seems to be the hardest DS game I've ever played. Dark souls 3 was pretty easy, Dark souls 1 a bit harder but also not too difficult.

Dark Souls 2 = harder combat on a moment-to-moment basis. DS1 has some tough (damn skeledoggies) foes but nothing really matches some of DS2's encounters, particularly in the DLC. Besides the omni-directional locked on rolls the player character is also generally weaker. Takes longer to heal.

Dark Souls 2 has better locations and combat mechanics compared to its predecessor. Dark Souls 3 failed to make meaningful changes to PVP, and players die too fast. Dark Souls 2's PVP has to be the best in the Souls franchise.

Dark Souls II was a critical and commercial success.

When focusing on the main objectives, Dark Souls II is about 43 Hours in length. If you're a gamer that strives to see all aspects of the game, you are likely to spend around 118 Hours to obtain 100% completion.

Thankfully, the studio's previous games are not going anywhere, and for those tempted to dive into the franchise, Dark Souls 2 is a decent place to start.

FromSoftware made sure Dark Souls 2 deviated from the original by simply adjusting their level design philosophy. The original game's map was like a complex spider web, and each area connected into others in an extremely cohesive manner.

There is some programming for how Mechanics work that is objectively better in DS3 than it is in DS2. Better AI design for both mobs and bosses and more responsive controls lead dark souls 3's combat to be significantly better than DS2's as a whole. There are other qualitites that are up in the air though.

Well objectivly, DS2 has some way superior shading and textures, as well as polygon count going on. But in terms of atmosphere and detail, DS1 wins.

"I actually personally think [Dark Souls 2] was a really great project for us," said Miyazaki, "and I think without it, we wouldn't have had a lot of the connections and a lot of the ideas that went forward and carried the rest of the series." I don't think you can really argue with that.

Is DS2 connected to 1? ›

All three Dark Souls games take place in the same world but at very different times and often in different places. Dark Souls one takes place primarily in Lordran at the very tail end of Gwyn's age of fire.

The one area I do think Dark Souls 3 wins out is in overall boss design: the visuals, narratives, and general gameplay are of a higher standard for the most part. I will also admit that Dark Souls 2 has the worst bosses in the series, Prowling Magus and Ancient Dragon.

If anything, DSIII is much harder, at least in the back half. The first game front-loads its difficulty, peaking with Ornstein & Smough at approximately the halfway point, and from there it's all downhill- none of the bosses in its latter half are anywhere near as challenging, at least once you figure out their tricks.
